Sindh government has announced plans to launch Pakistan’s first government-run electric vehicle (EV) taxi service by December 2025, with Karachi set to be the first city to benefit. The project aims to provide eco-friendly, affordable, and modern travel options for urban commuters.
This initiative is part of Sindh’s broader transport reforms, following the introduction of the Pink Bus Service and Pink Scooty scheme, both focused on improving safe mobility for women. The EV taxi fleet will also dedicate a portion of vehicles for women passengers, continuing the government’s gender-sensitive approach to public transport.
According to Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, the project reflects the vision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to bring sustainable, safe, and modern transport solutions to the public. The government highlighted that the EV taxi service will help cut emissions, reduce reliance on conventional fuels, and promote a greener transport system across Sindh.
Officials confirmed that advertisements and further operational details will be shared closer to the launch date, with the service expected to expand to other urban centers after Karachi.
