OpenAI is reportedly building a new social app powered by its upcoming Sora 2 video model. The app will look strikingly similar to TikTok, featuring a vertical video feed with swipe-to-scroll navigation. Unlike TikTok, however, it will only showcase AI-generated videos, as users cannot upload content from their camera rolls.

Sora 2 will initially generate clips no longer than 10 seconds inside the app. According to the source, limits outside the app remain unclear. For context, TikTok started with 15-second clips before gradually extending uploads to 10 minutes.

The app will also feature an identity verification tool. Once enabled, users can let Sora 2 create videos using their likeness. Others will then be able to tag and remix those videos. To prevent misuse, OpenAI will notify users whenever their likeness appears in generated clips, even if the videos are never published.

Copyright remains a challenge. According to the reports[1], Sora 2 will block certain requests, but details on enforcement are scarce. The Wall Street Journal adds that rights holders will need to opt out to prevent their content from being used.

Why is OpenAI moving into social media? Analysts suggest the company sees an opening after ongoing uncertainty around TikTok’s US operations. By introducing a social layer, OpenAI could also lock users into Sora, discouraging them from testing rival AI video platforms.
