The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has firmly denied reports about extending the last date for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025, confirming that the deadline remains September 30, 2025.

Amid speculation linking a possible extension to the recent floods, FBR clarified that such reports are baseless and misleading. It stated that most taxpayers live in unaffected areas and still have sufficient time to meet their national responsibility of filing returns.

The authority also dismissed complaints about the IRIS system being slow, saying the platform is fully operational and the newly introduced simplified return form ensures ease of filing. FBR[1] reminded taxpayers that those failing to submit returns on time will face late filer status and penalties under the law.

The tax body further advised that in cases of genuine hardship, taxpayers can apply for a short extension of up to 15 days with prior committee approval, but the due tax must still be paid by September 30, 2025. Officials urged citizens to act responsibly and file returns honestly within the deadline to avoid legal consequences.
