The government has launched Pakistan’s first National Youth Employment Policy (NYEP), aimed at creating large-scale job opportunities for young people both at home and abroad. The policy was announced by Prime Minister Youth Program (PMYP) Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore.

The NYEP is a landmark initiative designed to address unemployment and skills gaps, offering 1.8 million overseas job opportunities while also strengthening domestic markets. It includes the setup of employment exchanges in every district, promotion of green jobs, entrepreneurship support, and registration of new businesses.

According to Rana Mashhood, countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the US, and Belarus have already extended offers to accommodate skilled Pakistani workers. He emphasized that the program covers students, graduates, and out-of-school youth, ensuring inclusivity. Women’s participation has also been prioritized, with full integration into employment programs by 2029.

The government will also introduce language and vocational training to prepare the youth for international labor markets. A special committee chaired by the prime minister will review progress every two months. Employment exchanges will not only function digitally but also provide doorstep services, making job access easier.

The initiative further includes rehabilitation opportunities for youth involved in negative activities, channeling them into constructive roles under the Green Jobs program. Officials believe this comprehensive framework can transform Pakistan’s youth into a strong economic force, while also reducing unemployment challenges.
