Apple is reportedly testing a major upgrade to Siri through an internal chatbot known as Veritas, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman[1]. The tool is being used internally by employees as Apple[2] works to modernize Siri and address long-standing delays in its AI features for iPhones.

Apple has faced repeated setbacks in the development of its next-generation Siri. The company’s announcement of Apple Intelligence earlier this year received a muted response, and the virtual assistant’s revamp has been pushed back several times. Veritas is seen as Apple’s attempt to accelerate progress in this area.

How Veritas Works

Veritas reportedly functions much like existing chatbot apps such as ChatGPT or Google’s Gemini. Users can type requests, hold back-and-forth conversations, and revisit past exchanges to refine answers or explore topics further. The system also allows for testing of new Siri features, including the ability to search through personal data and perform in-app actions like photo editing.

Release Plans

Despite its potential, Apple currently has no plans to release Veritas to consumers, keeping it as an internal testing tool. Gurman notes that this decision may be a misstep, as direct consumer feedback could provide valuable insight into the platform’s shortcomings and strengths.

Instead of pushing forward with a public-facing chatbot, Apple appears to be leaning on Google. Reports suggest the company is preparing to rely heavily on Google’s Gemini to power its upcoming AI-driven search features.
