Florida’s Governor[1] sees the future Donald Trump Presidential Library[2][3] as validation of Miami’s continued progress, and that of the state writ large.

Speaking at Florida International University[4], Gov. Ron DeSantis[5] said the library, to be located at Miami Dade College, shows how Miami and Florida are “on the rise.”

“I think the fact that they want to do it right here in Miami, right by that Freedom Tower, to me is a testament that they view Miami as a city on the rise and the state of Florida as a place on the rise,” DeSantis said.

“I think it’s a good signal for the state that they would want to invest into this area. And I think I look forward to being able to facilitate that process.”

DeSantis will formally propose next week ceding a 2.63 acre parcel for the Trump Library[6] at the Cabinet’s Internal Improvement Trust Fund Board of Trustees meeting.

He acknowledges that “there may be other things that they’re going to need to bring this to fruition,” but sees the “first step” positively.

As he did earlier this week during a national television interview, DeSantis said New York City missed an opportunity to have the Trump library, especially given that President Donald Trump is the “quintessential New Yorker.”

But he believes the city only has itself to blame.

“He was Queens, real estate, ‘The Apprentice,’ all this stuff. And he’s not doing his presidential library in New York City or anywhere in New York state. And I think that’s a testament (to) how he was treated by New York City with the Attorney General trying to take his money and the bogus prosecution,” DeSantis said.

Beyond that, DeSantis said “the city has got a lot of problems.”

“They may elect a Mayor that’s going to cause a spiraling out of control of those problems in November,” DeSantis predicted, referring to Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani[7].

DeSantis has not endorsed one of Mamdani’s opponents at this time. But he has vowed to defend Florida against the “communist[8]” politician if that were needed for any reason.
