Origin
On September 18th, 2025, X user @InvalidLore tweeted a screenshot from Pinterest, showing a young blonde woman flexing and stretching her arm and a young bespectacled man holding up a large fish while giving a thumbs up. The post was captioned, “looking at poses to draw and…?” and gathered over 17 million views and 200,000 likes in a week.
While artwork based on the individual pose references has existed online prior to September 2025, X user @InvalidLore set off a trend that combined both poses into one artwork.
One of the earliest posts using the poses as inspiration was made by X user @LPSWaffle344 on September 19th, showing the characters Pomni[6] and Jax[7] from The Amazing Digital Circus[8]. The post gathered over 5,800 likes in five days.

On September 19th, 2025, X user @MaroDraws posted artwork inspired by @InvalidLore’s pose reference post, drawing Mario[9] stretching in a leotard and Rosalina holding up a fish while giving a thumbs up. The post gathered over 21,000 likes in five days.
Also on September 19th, X user @eelek__ posted characters from the anime[10] Jujutsu Kaisen[11] posing in a leotard and holding up a fish. The post gathered over 9,000 likes in five days.
That same day, X user @hovermilk tweeted photos of characters from the video games Hollow Knight[12] and Silksong[13] in the girl stretching and guy holding a fish pose, gathering over 50,000 likes in five days.
On September 20th, 2025, X user @yeonwu08 posted a photo of Sonic the Hedgehog[14] and Blaze the Cat[15] posing as the girl stretching and the guy holding a fish. The post gathered over 10,000 likes in four days.
