Nigeria’s Flying Eagles finished their preparations for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup with a solid 3-1 win over Australia in Santiago, Chile, on Tuesday night.

Tahir Maigana, Achihi Oseer and Charles Agada scored the goals for Nigeria in what was their last warm-up match before the tournament begins later this week. The game, played behind closed doors at the Complejo Deportivo Ruca Mapu, gave both teams a final chance to test themselves.

The Flying Eagles started strongly, with Maigana opening the scoring before Oseer added a second. Australia pulled one back before half-time, but Nigeria stayed in control after the break.

With seven minutes left, Agada fired in a third to seal the win and show the team’s readiness for the competition.

The result comes after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with hosts Chile last week, where Ahmed Akinyele got the early goal. Australia had beaten Ukraine 3-2 in their last game, but struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace and power.

Aliyu Zubairu’s side now move into Group F of the World Cup with confidence. They face Norway in their first match on Monday in Talca, before games against Saudi Arabia and Colombia.

Australia will compete in Group D against Argentina, Italy and Cuba.

Kick-off for Nigeria’s opener against Norway is set for 9pm Nigerian time.
