In a legal drama that sounds straight out of a Hollywood script, Jason Derulo[1] is battling a lawsuit filed by two brothers who claim their lives were upended after a shocking accident inside the singer’s multimillion-dollar mansion.

With accusations of negligence, wrongful termination, and a mysterious defense invoking an “act of God,” the story has captured much attention.

The controversy stems from an incident at Derulo’s seven-bedroom, six-bathroom estate in Tarzana, California, a sprawling 10,844-square-foot home designed to resemble a castle.

Purchased in 2014 for $3 million, the property became the backdrop for an accident that Juan Zetina and his brother Alvaro claim changed everything.

According to the lawsuit, Alvaro was hired for construction work at the property when tragedy struck.

On March 12, 2024, he allegedly plummeted from scaffolding that was “dangerous and defective. It lacked proper installation, safety features and maintenance,” the filing stated.

It also stated, “Following the fall, which rendered Alvaro unconscious, [Derulo’s dad] and Juan transported [Alavaro] — without medical assistance — to VIP Urgent Care.”

The complaint added, “Due to the severity of his injuries, he was then taken to Cedars-Sinai Hospital.”

Alvaro claimed he was bedridden for six months and “could not return to work until December 2024.”

On August 25, Jason Derulo, 35, responded to the lawsuit with a sweeping denial of all allegations.

In documents obtained by Us Weekly[2], the singer insisted the brothers’ claims were unfounded and that responsibility lay elsewhere.

In his filing, Derulo’s legal team argued that any alleged injuries were caused by third parties, not him.

His attorney took the defense further, asserting that the accident was due to no “human intervention but were solely caused by a superhuman cause or act of God, whose effects could not have been anticipated or prevented by the exercise of care on the part of [Derulo].”

Derulo not only denied wrongdoing but demanded that the entire lawsuit be dismissed.

His filing also accused Juan and Alvaro of negligence, alleging that they themselves contributed to the injuries they claimed to have suffered.

Court documents paint a broader picture of strained working conditions and heated disputes.

Juan said he was originally hired at $300 per day in cash before switching to checks, “which he was instructed to cash and use to compensate other works on the property.”

Later, he was paid $2,500 per week, while Alvaro earned $270 per day for their eight-hour shifts.

However, when Alvaro returned after months of recovery, he claimed that his pay had been cut to just $170 per day.

Alvaro also alleged that Derulo demanded that he sign a waiver releasing the singer from liability in exchange for continued pay.

When he refused, Juan said he was punished in retaliation.

The court documents stated, “Juan Zetina was fired, reducing his income from $2,500 to $1,100 per week. He did not gain comparable employment until April 2024.”

Emotional Distress And High Stakes

Beyond the physical injuries, the Zetina brothers said the ordeal left lasting scars.

“Plaintiffs suffered severe emotional distress, including anxiety, humiliation and loss of dignity,” their complaint read.

They further accused Jason Derulo and his family of acting with “malice, fraud … and with conscious disregard of plaintiff’s rights, health and safety.”

The lawsuit also named Derulo’s parents, Jocelyne and Joel Desrouleaux, as well as PePe Construction and other third parties, alleging negligence, wrongful termination, labor code violations, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Jason Derulo’s Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

This isn’t the first time Derulo has faced legal entanglements.

In October 2023, he was embroiled in a lawsuit filed by singer Emaza Gibson, who claimed he had pressured her with unwanted advances after recruiting her for a potential record deal.

Court documents alleged that he told her that success in the industry required taking part in disturbing rituals and drug use, which she interpreted as a demand for sexual favors.

Gibson also described feeling pressured when Derulo repeatedly invited her to late-night dinners and recording sessions, and recalled one incident where he allegedly gave her a drink that she said contained an excessive amount of alcohol.

She further accused him of screaming at her during a studio session for arriving late, saying his behavior was intimidating.

Derulo publicly rejected the allegations, stating in an Instagram video[3] that they were completely false, harmful to his reputation, and at odds with his commitment to supporting others and living in a positive way.
