Rivers United have urged fans to turn up in large numbers and cheer them on as they face FC Les Aigles du Congo in the CAF Champions League on Sunday.
In a statement on social media, the club appealed to fans to “paint the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo” and act as the 12th man. The Pride of Nigeria said the support of the crowd would give the players the extra push needed to advance in Africa’s biggest club competition.
The tie is finely balanced after the first leg ended 0-0 in Kinshasa. Rivers United, coached by former Super Eagles manager Finidi George, are hoping home advantage and strong fan backing will make the difference.
Supporters will have the chance to watch key players like Temple Emekayi, Osagie Onisodumeya, Stephen Manyo, Taiwo AbdulRafiu, Taofeek Otaniyi, Boluwaji Sholumade, as well as home stars Ubong Friday, Wisdom Samuel, and Okon Aniekeme.
Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, which Rivers United have used successfully in the past to reach the group stage of CAF competitions.
“Let’s show our opponents that Rivers United FC has a formidable 12th man,” the club told fans.
