The University of Florida[1] is celebrating its latest rankings, which place the Gainesville school in the Top 10 public universities for eight consecutive years.

UF tied for No. 7 with the University of Texas-Austin in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges” rankings that were released Tuesday.

“UF’s ranking among the very best public universities in the country reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff and students and the strong support we receive from the state of Florida, for which we are grateful,” said Mori Hosseini[2], chair of UF’s Board of Trustees, in a statement. “Once again, this is proof positive that the University of Florida’s future is as bright as it ever was. We refuse to slow down.”

UF was previously ranked No. 7 last year as well. It’s a dip from being as high as No. 5 in 2023.

The rankings that schools use to help recruit students and bolster their reputation are based on data such as graduation and retention rates, financial resources and more.

“UF’s standing reflects a decade of concerted effort, supported by historic state investment and federal research funding, leading to stronger student outcomes, inspired research accomplishments and ever-greater impact on the economy of Florida,” UF Interim President Donald Landry[3] said. “Our future is one of thriving students, groundbreaking research and signal service to our state, because fortune favors the bold.”

Six other schools were recognized as among the country’s[4] Top 100 public universities.

Florida State University[5] ranked No. 21, the University of South Florida[6] at No. 43, Florida International University at No. 46, the University of Central Florida[8] at No. 57, Florida A&M University[9] at No. 92, and Florida Atlantic University[10] at No. 100.[7]

“The State University System of Florida has proven once again why we remain the #1 public university system in the nation,” said State University System Chancellor Ray Rodrigues in a statement as state education officials touted the news.
