Ketel Marte, Alek Thomas and Corbin Carroll each hit solo homers as the Arizona Diamondbacks registered a 7-2 victory over the Athletics on Saturday night at West Sacramento, Calif.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. delivered a tiebreaking two-run single and Marte also drove in two runs as Arizona snapped a season-worst six-game losing streak. The win was just the second in the past 11 games for the Diamondbacks.
Arizona starter Zac Gallen (8-12) gave up two runs and nine hits over six-plus innings while halting a personal three-start losing streak. The right-hander struck out three and walked none.
Gallen, who is a free agent following the season, was on the trading block but the Diamondbacks didn’t move him prior to Thursday’s deadline.
Andrew Saalfrank and Kendall Graveman each worked a perfect inning of relief for Arizona. Kevin Ginkel allowed one hit before retiring three straight batters to finish up the win.
Tyler Soderstrom had a two-run double for the Athletics, who lost for just the second time in their past nine games.
Nick Kurtz, Shea Langeliers and Carlos Cortes each had two hits for the A’s.
J.T. Ginn (2-3) of the Athletics allowed four runs and four hits over 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander walked a season-worst five and struck out two.
Ginn had issued just 10 free passes in 44 innings entering the game.
The Diamondbacks took the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning.
Thomas and Blaze Alexander singled to start the inning against Ginn and Carroll walked to load the bases. Marte’s groundout scored Thomas to tie the score at 2.
Geraldo Perdomo followed with a walk before Gurriel faced a full count and delivered a go-ahead two-run single.
In the sixth inning, Thomas came up with one out and slammed a homer to right-center off Justin Sterner to give Arizona a 5-2 advantage.
The Diamondbacks tacked on a run in the seventh as Perdomo reached on an error by A’s third baseman Gio Urshela, stole second, moved to third on Gurriel’s grounder and scored on a sacrifice fly by Adrian Del Castillo.
Carroll launched a full-count slider from Eduarniel Nunez over the wall in right in the ninth. Nunez was making his A’s debut after being acquired from the San Diego Padres on Thursday.
Marte was the second batter of the game when he drilled a homer to right center.
The Athletics answered in the third. Kurtz singled with one out and moved to third on a double by Langeliers. Both runners scored on Soderstrom’s double to left.
