Include the powerful, pro-business Associated Industries of Florida (AIF[1]) lobbying group to the list of backers for Delray Beach Commissioner Rob Long in the House District 90 Special Election.
In a new, ringing endorsement, AIF President Brewster Bevis said his group is “proud to stand with him in this race.”
“Rob Long is the kind of leader Florida needs — someone who has shown he will work with anyone, whether they are a Democrat, Republican, or Independent, in order to find common-sense solutions that help Florida families,” Bevis said in a statement.
“From lowering costs to creating innovative, high-paying jobs, Rob understands what it takes to build a strong, pro-business economy that works for everyone.”
The new nod is notable, considering Long is a Democrat and AIF most[2] often[3] endorses and donates to Republican candidates.
Long filed in February to run for HD 90 in the regular 2026 election with an endorsement[4] from the district’s then-Representative, Joe Casello. Casello’s death in July[5] prompted a Special Election for which four candidates have qualified[6].
The remaining members of the Democratic legislative delegation of Palm Beach County — Senate Democratic Leader Lori Berman, Sens. Mack Bernard and Tina Polsky, and Reps. Tae Edmonds, Kelly Skidmore and Debra Tendrich — have all endorsed Long.
On Monday, he said in a statement that with support from AIF and other organizations like it, he stands “ready to get to work on building a brighter future for all Floridians.”
“I believe the best way to deliver results for the people of Florida is by working together, no matter your party affiliation,” he said. “Families across our state are counting on us to make life more affordable, create opportunity, and strengthen our economy.”
HD 90[7] is a Democratic-leaning district[8] that spans a coastal portion of Palm Beach County, including Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and part of Highland Beach.
Long is the race’s lone Democratic candidate. Others running include no-party candidate Karen Yeh and two Republicans: Maria Zack, a longtime Georgia lobbyist[9] who has promoted conspiracy theories[10], and signage company owner Bill Reicherter, who has a long history of community involvement.
The race’s Republican Primary is on Sept. 30, after which the winner will take on Long and Yeh in the Dec. 9 General Election.
