“Our hearts go out to all of those affected,” the band wrote
One person was killed and two more were injured in a stabbing that took place outside of Phish[1]‘s show at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia, on Friday night.
Police responded to a violent altercation just after 9:30 p.m. ET, according to a police report from the Hampton Police Division[2]. According to the report published Saturday, the suspect fled the scene on foot, but detectives managed to identify “all parties involved,” adding it appeared “to be an isolated incident.”
“The first victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries,” Cpl. Shaun Stalnaker wrote. “The second victim was also transported and is currently receiving medical treatment. A third adult male victim later arrived at a local hospital as a walk-in, also suffering from a laceration determined to be non-life-threatening.” As of Saturday, a suspect had not yet been identified.
“The Hampton Police Division is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in connection with a stabbing that occurred on September 19, 2025.”
Phish addressed the incident in a statement on Instagram Saturday, saying that while they “don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police,” the band was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy.
“During last night’s show, a tragic incident took place in the parking lot outside Hampton Coliseum. There was an altercation behind one of the tents in the unofficial vending area in which someone lost their life and two other people were injured,” the band said. “We don’t have more information than what has been reported by the police, who called it an isolated incident, but what we do know is upsetting enough. We are deeply saddened by this and our hearts go out to all of those affected.”
Phish was performing at the Hampton Coliseum as part of their summer tour. The band’s Saturday and Sunday night concerts in Hampton, their final nights on tour, were set to go on as planned.
