Android 16 QPR2 beta 2

Google rolled out Android 16 QPR2 beta 2 for Pixel phones a few days back, including the latest Pixel 10 lineup[1]. The quarterly platform update delivers new features, security improvements, and a round of bug fixes.

With this release, Android 16 QPR2 beta 2 has reached platform stability, giving developers a solid base to test their apps. It also arrives with the September security patch, further strengthening device protection.

One of the most notable changes is a new developer verification rule designed to improve user safety. Starting in September 2026, apps in certain regions will only install on certified Android devices if they come from verified developers.

The update introduces SMS OTP protection that can delay delivery by up to three hours when messages contain retriever hashes. Google has also added more ways to customize app icons, including fresh shapes that apply across apps and folder previews.

Other upgrades include better garbage collection and expanded health tracking through Health Connect. Users will now see automatic step tracking and more detailed exercise data.

Android 16 QPR2 beta 2 is available for devices from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 10 series. Google says the build is stable enough for everyday use. Anyone interested can join the Android Beta Program[2] to get early access.
