The Lahore administration is preparing to regulate private parking stands by introducing a new licensing system that will also increase parking fees for citizens.

The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) has identified 242 sites in the first phase, where private operators will now be required to obtain licenses and renew them annually. The move aims to curb illegal parking practices that have long troubled the city.

Under the proposed rates, parking charges at private stands will be higher than government rates. Motorcyclists will pay Rs30 instead of Rs10, while car owners will be charged Rs50 compared to the official Rs30. The scheme is also expected to generate strong revenue for the city through license fees.

Officials believe this step will resolve disputes between legal and illegal stand operators and bring private parking under proper regulation. The draft plan has been forwarded to the deputy commissioner, whose approval will formalize the new framework.

Vehicle Type Govt Parking Fee Proposed Private Parking Fee
Motorcycle Rs10 Rs30
Car Rs30 Rs50

If approved, this initiative will mark a significant change in how parking is managed in Lahore, potentially improving order but also putting an extra burden on daily commuters.
