Apple has rolled out full Urdu language support with the release of iOS 26, making the system more accessible in Pakistan. iPhone and iPad users can now set Urdu as their primary language across the interface.
The feature first appeared in iOS 18.4 Beta 3 earlier this year, giving developers and testers a preview. With iOS 26, Apple has expanded the option to all compatible devices, making Urdu available for millions of users.
Now, system menus, settings, notifications, and Apple’s built-in apps can all be navigated in Urdu. The option appears in the “iPhone Language” section under device settings. Once selected, the device restarts to apply the changes.
With over 125 million Urdu speakers in Pakistan, the move enhances accessibility for a significant portion of the population. It is especially useful for first-time smartphone users and the elderly who prefer native language interfaces.
Enabling the Urdu interface is simple: open Settings → General → Language & Region → iPhone Language → Urdu. After that, the device will restart automatically.
However, not every feature currently supports Urdu. Siri voice commands, dictation, and many third-party apps are still limited to other languages. Apple has not confirmed when Urdu support will expand to these features.
The addition of Urdu to iOS marks a significant step for Apple in South Asia. It enhances user experience, reduces language barriers, and broadens Apple’s appeal in one of the region’s largest smartphone markets.
