If you’re just getting started in Grounded 2, you’ll eventually discover some recipes require Grub Hides. These grub parts are components needed for crafting armor items such as the Weevil Shield or the Grub Goggles. In this guide, we explain how to find and kill grubs, so you can craft some early defense items in Grounded 2.
Where to find grubs

You’ll see grub activity from the moment you’re free to explore the open world, but you won’t be able to access them until later. Grubs are underground, and you’ll see their movement from small sections of dirt moving just below the surface.
You need to dig the grubs out and kill them for the Grub Hides resource. Additionally, these bugs can provide a food source, as you also get meat to cook.
Grub activity is pretty common, but your first task will be upgrading your Omni-Tool if you haven’t already.
You’ll need to advance through the story far enough to answer the phone and unlock your first Ranger Station. This lets you upgrade the basic Omni-Tool beyond just a simple chopping tool.
Items needed to craft the shovel upgrade

Interact with the Ranger Station terminal to upgrade your Omni-Tool to utilize the Omni-Shovel mechanic. You’ll also need the following materials:
- 350 – Science points
- 1 – Grass seed
- 2 – Sprigs
Kill some grubs
With the Omni-Shovel upgrade, you can now stand near the moving dirt trails and get the option to dig. The shovel allows you to dig up a grub and kill it for parts. It’s a bit grim, but you’ll get valuable resources this way.
You only get one grub per dig, so you’ll need to repeat this process to get enough to craft multiple items. Also, remember to take these parts to the analyzer inside any Ranger Outpost to learn new recipes.
