A little girl who slayed cancer is about to have her wish come true with a visit to the happiest place on earth. And it’s a local insurer making it possible.
Heritage Insurance[1] has sponsored a trip to Disney and revealed the special trip to the girl, Shelby, and her family with a “Mickey’s Not-So-Spooky Halloween” theme.
Heritage raised $20,000 from employee contributions and a company match for Make-A-Wish[2], which is facilitating the family’s trip to Orlando later this month. The funding will pay for more than two wishes.
“We are deeply honored to host Shelby and her family today for this very special Wish Reveal. Shelby’s journey is a true testament to strength, resilience, and hope, and it inspires all of us at Heritage,” Heritage Insurance CEO Ernie Garateix said.
“Supporting Make-A-Wish and helping to bring moments of joy to children like Shelby is one of the most meaningful ways we can give back. We’re thrilled to celebrate her upcoming Disney adventure and to be part of a day filled with magic, courage, and joy.”
Shelby was born a fighter. With an extra chromosome (trisomy), she has already faced more challenges than most people face in a lifetime, including open-heart surgery as a baby. She was diagnosed with AML Leukemia just before her second birthday and faced a year of intensive treatment. Last year, in November, Shelby was able to ring the bell celebrating the end of her treatment and is now celebrating nearly one year of being cancer-free.
