According to a new report, Insomniac’s long-in-development Wolverine[1] game is still track for a 2026 release, and the Venom spin-off remains in development.
Note: this article contains potential spoilers for the upcoming Venom game.
Word comes by way of MP1ST,[2] who claim that “Someone familiar with the situation has confirmed to us that Wolverine will stick to the 2026 scheduled release seen in the leaks.”
The leaks they refer to occurred a few years ago, revealing huge swathes of Insomniac’s plans, including a planned Venom spin-off of the main Spider-Man games. According to the same sources, the Venom game is still being worked on, but it’s unclear when it’s scheduled for release.
“While we haven’t been able to determine how advanced the Venom project is, if we assume Wolverine remains the priority, it’s likely that the game is still in pre-production,” said MP1ST.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2[3] obviously heavily featured Venom, and also saw the teasing of another symbiote; Carnage. If there’s going to be a spin-off, that’d be the most likely antagonist to be featured.
MP1ST also say they were told by another source that Eddie Brock will be the host for Venom. Brock was the original Venom host in the comics, but Spider-Man 2 switched things up. However, they did state they could not not verify these claims.
MP1ST also claim to have discovered some evidence that Miguel ‘O Hara , the Spider-Man of 2099, is going to pop up at some point. You might recall that in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 there was a mission which included a peak into the multiverse. That may have just been a fun cameo, or it could have been a glimpse at things to come. There was plans to expand on the idea in DLC, but the leaks suggest those DLC plans were cancelled.
Jumping back to Wolverine for a minute, it’s claimed that it will be properly revealed by the end of this month at a State of Play.[4] Failing that, it is expected to show up at the Game Awards.
