Nigeria international Victor Boniface made a bright start to his Werder Bremen career, providing an assist in their 4–0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Sunday evening.

Boniface, who joined Bremen on transfer deadline day after his move to AC Milan fell through, came on in the 75th minute alongside fellow Nigerian Justin Njinmah. Minutes later, the pair combined as Boniface set up Njinmah to score Bremen’s fourth goal with a calm finish in the 81st minute.

Super Eagles defender Felix Agu also impressed on the night. Starting and finishing the game, Agu helped his side secure their first clean sheet of the season after conceding seven goals in their opening two matches. Bundesliga data showed he was the fastest player on the pitch, hitting a top speed of 34.15 km/h.

Bremen had already taken control of the match before Boniface’s introduction. Samuel Mbangula and Jens Stage scored fine goals in the first half to give the visitors a two-goal lead at the break. Romano Schmid added a third from the penalty spot in the 74th minute after Mbangula was brought down.

The victory, Bremen’s first of the season, moved them up to ninth in the Bundesliga table with four points from three games.
