Florida Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal Blaise Ingoglia[1] oversaw the distribution of $1.4 million in funds to local fire departments recently.

The funding is going to the fire departments to bolster equipment needed to battle blazes in local communities and provide protection for the personnel on those jobs. Some 15 departments across the state got a cut of the money.

“Our firefighters put their communities first every day they are on the job. Whether it is fighting a residential fire, responding to medical emergencies or safely installing a car seat for new parents, our firefighters are the backbones of our communities,” Ingoglia said Wednesday. “On the eve of Sept. 11th, I was proud to award $1.4 million in funds to ensure that our firefighters have the equipment they need to safely perform their jobs.”

The funds were approved by Gov. Ron DeSantis as part of the budget for the 2025-2026 spending plan. Additional funding is earmarked for the Firefighter Cancer Decontamination Equipment (FCDE[2]) Grant Program and the Firefighter Assistance Grant Program[3]. The FCDE grants provide financial assistance to help fire departments acquire equipment, supplies and educational training to reduce the risk of exposure to hazardous and cancer-causing agents. The assistance grant helps with funding for improving response capabilities and upgrading safety.

“CFO Ingoglia continues to put firefighter health and safety first. By prioritizing cancer decontamination, he’s making sure Florida’s firefighters have the tools to protect themselves from the dangers of the job and I am glad that our CFO has made that a top priority,” said Bernie Bernoska, President of Florida Professional Firefighters[4].

Some $1.04 million of the funding went to the Sanford Aircraft Rescue firefighting vehicle replacement.
