Werder Bremen manager Steffen Horst has said he is pleasantly surprised by how well Victor Boniface has performed since joining the club on transfer deadline day.
Boniface had a difficult summer, with many rumours about his future. He was very close to signing for AC Milan from Bayer Leverkusen, but the move didn’t happen because the Italian club had concerns about his injury history.
In the end, Boniface joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan.
The Super Eagles striker has been training with his new teammates and could make his debut this Sunday, when Bremen face Borussia Monchengladbach at Borussia-Park.
Ahead of the match, coach Horst praised Boniface for the quality he’s shown in training and how quickly he has settled into the team.
“He’s been welcomed really well. I like him – he’s very likeable,” Horst told Deich Stube.
“He behaves just like the others, even though he has a higher market value. Players with his ability definitely raise the level of the team. I really hope we’ve signed a top player.”
Horst added that some of Boniface’s movements in training have been “exceptionally good” and different from what he’s used to seeing.
Boniface Could Start vs Borussia Monchengladbach
Based on Horst’s comments, Boniface might be in the starting lineup on Sunday.
He’ll be hoping to make a strong start and score plenty of goals this season, which could help him earn a move to a bigger club next summer.
Boniface already has experience in the Bundesliga, with 22 goals and 11 assists in 42 matches. So, finding the back of the net for Werder Bremen shouldn’t be a problem.
