In a landmark move blending education, innovation, and local industry, Pakistan is setting up a Chromebook assembly line in Haripur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The venture is a joint project between Tech Valley Pakistan, the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), Allied Corporation, and Google for Education. The facility is expected to begin with an annual production capacity of 500,000 Chromebooks, with plans to scale up to one million units per year.
What the Chromebook Assembly Initiative Entails
The project is about more than just making hardware. It aims to deliver “Made in Pakistan” Chromebooks, ensuring students nationwide get access to world-class, verified devices designed for learning. Tech Valley has already launched MyChromebook.pk, a Google-verified platform, so educators, parents, and institutions can buy certified Chromebooks without worry.
In April 2025, officials from Tech Valley and Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) visited the NRTC facility in Haripur to review progress on Pakistan’s first dedicated Chromebook assembly line. Stakeholders emphasized that this step is a cornerstone in integrating Google for Education tools into more schools across Punjab.
Umar Farooq, CEO of Tech Valley, echoed the sentiment, adding:
“By making Chromebooks more accessible and affordable through local production, we aim to empower Pakistani students with the tools they need to thrive in the digital age.”
Impacts on Education, Economy & Technology
Local production promises multiple benefits. For students, it delivers affordable, genuine Chromebooks suited for educational use and prevents the pitfalls of counterfeit or non-certified devices. Economically, the assembly line is projected to generate jobs, build technical skills, and contribute to GDP growth by fostering an upstream electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
On the policy front, the government has affirmed its support. The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training backed the joint venture, and education ministers and tech stakeholders formally signed the Letter of Understanding (LoU).
Chromebook Manufacturing: Future of Tech in Pakistan
This project supports Pakistan’s vision of digital transformation. As internet access and digital learning grow, locally assembled Chromebooks make supply chains easier to manage. They simplify support services and certification processes. They also cut import dependency and lower costs for students.
Schools are using Google Workspace for Education more than ever. Producing Chromebooks locally improves integration with these tools. It allows more students to access modern learning resources.
