Newcastle United have turned down Liverpool’s opening bid for striker Alexander Isak, according to Sky Sports.

Liverpool’s offer was around £110 million plus add-ons, but it fell short of reaching £120 million in total. The Premier League champions are now preparing a second bid.

Newcastle are keen to keep the Swedish forward and have set a high price of £150 million for him.

Isak is currently in Spain, training alone at his former club Real Sociedad’s facilities. He did not join Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia, with the club stating he was recovering from a minor thigh injury.

However, reports suggest the 25-year-old wants to leave St James’ Park this summer.
