The Punjab School Education Department is moving forward to set a uniform holiday schedule and academic calendar for all public and private schools across the province, following a directive from the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench. The order followed a petition by student Danial Hassan challenging the extension of summer vacations and instructed the department to develop clear rules for school holidays along with a year-long academic framework.
A high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Lahore included secretaries of school and special education, officials from law and parliamentary affairs, representatives from private school networks such as APSMA, Lahore Grammar School, and Beaconhouse, and curriculum experts from the National Curriculum Council. Written recommendations were shared, and the department plans to finalize the rules after detailed deliberations.
The initiative aims to reduce confusion over holiday announcements, streamline academic planning, and create consistency in school operations across Punjab. Experts note that a uniform calendar will help students maintain regular learning schedules, assist parents in planning, and enable schools to manage teaching and extracurricular activities effectively. The LHC stressed that the previous extension of summer vacations lacked proper justification, which had affected students’ learning progress.
Once finalized, the academic calendar will be widely communicated to ensure compliance across public and private schools, showcasing Punjab’s ongoing efforts to improve governance, transparency, and academic consistency in the education sector.
