Catherine Mayfield-Garner, age 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Baptist Health Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born on February 23, 1946, in Fort Smith, the beloved daughter of Paulie Mayfield and Ella Imogene (Sudberry) Mayfield.
Catherine graduated from Northside High School and went on to earn an associate’s degree from WestArk College. In 1967, she married the love of her life, Jimmy Lee Garner, and together they shared 58 wonderful years. A devoted homemaker, Catherine found joy in sewing, arts and crafts, and painting. She also had a tender heart for cats and cherished her pets dearly. Above all, Catherine was a woman of strong Christian faith.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Garner; and her daughter, Rebecca Lawson and husband David.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents, Paulie and Jean Mayfield, and her son, Jeffery Garner.
A private interment will be held at Fort Smith National Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.
