President Donald Trump will go to the US Open men’s singles final on Sunday. It will be his first time at the tournament since 2015.
Trump, who was elected for a second term in 2024, has not visited the New York tennis event since he first became president in 2016.
Before becoming president, he went to the US Open several times. On his last visit, about 10 years ago, his wife Melania was with him.
A White House official told the reporters that the president is expected to attend the final.
In 2015, Trump watched the match from a VIP area and was welcomed by American tennis legend John McEnroe, who has won six Grand Slam titles.
Trump, now 79 years old, was born in Queens, New York — the same area where the US Open is held.
There will be no American players in Sunday’s final, which begins at 2:00 p.m. local time (7:00 p.m. BST).
The finalists will be decided after Friday’s semi-final matches: Novak Djokovic from Serbia will play Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, and Jannik Sinner from Italy will face Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.
