Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has spoken about his failed transfer to AC Milan after being unveiled as a new player for Werder Bremen.

The 24-year-old explained that the collapsed deal with the Serie A giants was not his fault, saying medical concerns and a decision from coach Massimiliano Allegri were the main reasons.

“The Milan deal not going through, that’s not on me,” Boniface said during his unveiling. “They decided not to go through with it. I have a strong mentality. If the deal was meant to happen, it would have happened. Since it didn’t, I move on. I’m not bothered.”

Why the Move Collapsed

Milan had agreed a loan deal with Bayer Leverkusen worth around €5 million, with an option to buy for €24–29 million. But the transfer was cancelled after Boniface reportedly failed medical checks. Doctors raised concerns about his right knee, which has undergone two ACL surgeries in the past.

This came just months after another collapsed move in January, when Saudi club Al Nassr turned away from signing him in a €70 million deal.

Fresh Start in Bremen

Despite these setbacks, Werder Bremen signed Boniface on deadline day. He joined on loan until June 2026, with Leverkusen covering part of his wages. Surprisingly, he passed his medical with the Bundesliga side and was officially presented earlier this week.

Werder coach Horst Steffen expressed his excitement over the signing. “Victor is physically very strong, has good pace, and an excellent finish. He was outstanding for Leverkusen in their title-winning season. I’m sure he will be an important player for us,” he said.

Boniface will now look to put the disappointment of his failed Milan move behind him and focus on proving his quality in the Bundesliga with Bremen.
