Nigeria international Christantus Uche has brought an unexpected twist to his transfer saga after confirming he will stay at Getafe despite strong interest from abroad.
The 22-year-old midfielder, valued at €15m by Transfermarkt, was close to joining Wolves earlier this month after the Premier League side agreed a €20m deal with Getafe. Medicals were already being prepared, and he was expected to make his debut last weekend. However, Uche pulled the plug on the move himself.
Crystal Palace have since shown interest as they look for attacking options following Eberechi Eze’s transfer to Arsenal. In Italy, AC Milan and newly promoted Como — part-owned by Cesc Fàbregas and Thierry Henry — have also made enquiries, though no official bids have been made.
Amid the uncertainty, Uche has now cleared the air. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), he said:
“The most important thing in life will always be the people in this room, right here, right now. Salute mi familia, Getafe.”
The post signals his loyalty to the Spanish club and his teammates, meaning manager José Bordalás can still count on his key man for this weekend’s trip to Valencia.
Uche has made a strong start to the new La Liga season, scoring and assisting in the opening-day win at Celta Vigo before impressing again in the 2-1 victory away at Sevilla. He is expected to play another big role in matchday three.
Last season, the versatile midfielder recorded four goals, six assists and a string of standout displays in 33 league appearances.
