Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade on a free transfer, making her the sixth Nigerian to play for the French club.
The 25-year-old forward signed a contract with PSG until June 2027, the club announced on Tuesday.
Ajibade’s move to Paris comes only weeks after leaving Atletico Madrid, where she spent four and a half years and won both the Copa de la Reina and the Supercopa de España.
She will now link up with fellow Nigerian international Jennifer Echegini, who also joined PSG earlier this year. Ajibade follows in the footsteps of other Nigerians who have played for the French giants, including Nicole Payne, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, Godwin Okpara, and Bartholomew Ogbeche.
Ajibade began her career with Lagos-based Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Premier League, where she quickly rose to fame. In 2017, she scored eight goals to help her side avoid relegation and was named Player of the Season.
Her first move to Europe came in 2018 with Norwegian club Avaldsnes, where she scored 12 goals in 39 matches. Two years later, she joined Atletico Madrid and became a key figure in the Spanish side, known for her versatility and attacking ability.
On the international stage, Ajibade has enjoyed great success. She captained Nigeria’s U-17 team at the 2016 World Cup, featured for the U-20s, and later stepped up to the senior team. She won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in 2018, finished as top scorer at the 2022 edition, and just last month led the Super Falcons to their 10th continental crown, where she was named Player of the Tournament.
With 20 goals in 38 matches for Nigeria, Ajibade arrives in Paris with an impressive record. PSG will hope her energy, creativity, and leadership can help the team reclaim the Division 1 Féminine title from rivals Olympique Lyonnais.
