Google Drive has just introduced native integration of Google Vids, its lightweight, cloud-based video editing tool. The feature is rolling out over the next 15 days to select Workspace users, offering basic editing tools directly within Drive.

Once the integration is live, users will notice a purple Google Vids icon in the top-right corner when opening supported video files in Drive. Clicking the icon will open the video in Google Vids, where users can trim footage, overlay text, add music, and insert other graphics.

Google Vids currently offers essential editing tools, but with the advantage of a cloud-native interface, it eliminates the need for local software. After editing, the project must be saved as a new Vids file, as in-place editing is not yet supported.

Limitations

The integration currently supports MP4, QuickTime, OGG, and WebM formats. However, only videos shorter than 35 minutes and under 4GB in size are eligible for editing.

Who Will Get the Feature?

The feature will only be available to users in the following Workspace domains:

  • Business Starter, Standard, and Plus
  • Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus
  • Essentials, Enterprise Essentials, and Enterprise Essentials Plus
  • Nonprofits
  • Gemini Education and Gemini Education Premium
  • Google AI Pro and Ultra
  • Customers with Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise add-ons

Free Google account holders will not have access to this feature for now.
