A Sky Sports presenter has apologised following an on-air gaffe after Saturday

A Sky Sports presenter has given her side of the story after she was left red-faced following an awkward on-air exchange this weekend.

Eintracht Frankfurt made a successful start to their Bundesliga campaign on Saturday when they played host to Werder Bremen.

Can Uzun, Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Ansgar Knauff all managed to get on the scoresheet as Dino Toppmoller’s side were able to secure all three points in their league opener.

With a successful performance behind them, Sky Sports Germany presenter Katharina Kleinfeldt asked a player how he felt about the victory.

The problem, however, was that the man she was interviewing was not, in fact, a Frankfurt player.

Instead it was Werder defender and club captain Marco Friedl.

Following the game Friedl had swapped shirts with former Werder goalkeeper Michael Zetterer, who recently departed the club to join Frankfurt.

Then, with Friedl joining her in Frankfurt colours, Kleinfelt asked whether the defender was happy with their win.

Friedl then awkwardly informed the presenter that he is a Werder player, prompting Kleinfelt to immediately apologise on-air for the misunderstanding.

The Austria international later expressed his surprise at the interaction.

‘I’ve never experienced that before,’ he said. ‘That’s strange and also a bit ridiculous.’

Kleinfelt – who is in a relationship with Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl – later addressed her mistake.

‘Before the game, I interviewed Marco Friedl on the bus,’ she said.

‘Unfortunately, the Eintracht jersey confused me for a moment after the final whistle, so I made this unfortunate mistake.’
