Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce interim Executive Director Terrence Ward has been named the permanent executive director of the organization. The board of directors announced Wednesday (Aug. 20) that it voted unanimously to hire Ward.

“In the short time he’s been in this role, Terrence Ward has helped our chamber reach a whole new level of energy and a new sense of purpose,” said Board Chair Cathy Tedder. “Our memberships have increased substantially, and there is excitement about our chamber across Lawrence County. We are fortunate to have his leadership, and it was a very easy decision for the board to make him the permanent executive director.”

In the six weeks since Ward took the helm of the chamber, memberships have climbed by nearly 25%. Since Ward has taken over, social media engagements have tripled and website traffic has doubled, the board reported. Ward has a background in media, marketing and social media engagement.

“I am excited to step into this role because I truly believe in the potential of Lawrence County and the people who make it special,” Ward said. “This opportunity allows me to bring my background in marketing and communications to the table, helping our chamber tell its story, support our businesses and highlight the strengths of our community.”

Ward is a Lawrence County native and a graduate of Hoxie High School. He serves as board president for the Wings of Honor Museum, and he is on the board of the Hoxie: The First Stand Museum. He emcees the annual Beatles at the Ridge Festival and serves on the board for that event, as well.

“This is a new beginning for our chamber, and my commitment is to ensure that all members and prospects feel welcomed, valued and connected,” he said. “Together we will build a stronger foundation, foster new opportunities and create a chamber that reflects the pride and resilience of Lawrence County. Whether you are a long-time member, just joining, or considering membership, there is a place for you here as we grow together.”
