Volodymyr Zelensky delighted Donald Trump by wearing a suit to the White House after he previously faced criticism over his decision to wear army fatigues for his previous visit to Washington DC
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to wear a suit for his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House today shows he wants to “pull out all the stops” to make the talks a success, a body language expert has told The Mirror.
The Republican met with Zelensky outside the White House where they exchanged words with a delighted Trump appearing to notice the change in attire from the Ukrainian leader. Zelensky was harshly criticised by Trump’s Vice President JD Vance for wearing military fatigues during a disastrous meeting at the White House earlier this year.

One reporter told Zelensky today: “You look fabulous in that suit.” He was then seen speaking with Trump in the Oval Office, who remarked he had also complimented Zelensky on his outfit.
Body language expert Darren Stanton told The Mirror: “The fact he’s worn a suit demonstrates in his own mind that he wants to be conciliatory and he wants to pull out all the stops to make sure they make a lot of progress in this meeting.”
Trump appeared delighted at the prospect of having eyes from all around the world on the White House today. In a post shared to TruthSocial, he said: “A big day at the White House. We have never had so many European Leaders here at one time. A great honour for America!!! Lets see what the results will be???
The crunch meeting between Trump and Zelensky comes just days after the Alaska summit between the US President and his Russian counterpart. Despite high expectations, Putin and Trump did not secure a ceasefire deal or any concrete moves towards bringing an end to the war in Ukraine.
Trump said he and Putin made “some great progress,” with few details about what that meant. But in the following hours, it emerged Putin would accept some form of a peace deal that would result in Kyiv ceding territory to Russia.
Russian forces currently occupy much of eastern Ukraine and holds a land corridor to Crimea, which was forcibly annexed in 2014. Trump did not inspire much confidence among critics when he posted a new message to his social media platform TruthSocial.
He said on Sunday: “President Zelenskyy of Ukraine can end the war with Russia almost immediately, if he wants to, or he can continue to fight. Remember how it started. No getting back Obama given Crimea (12 years ago, without a shot being fired!), and NO GOING INTO NATO BY UKRAINE. Some things never change!!!”
