Dorothy “Dede” Marie O’Bar was born February 18, 1948, to Paul and Dorothy Stiegler. She departed from this life on August 6, 2025. She was 77 years old.
Dede is preceded in death by her husband, John O’Bar, two daughters, Dee Simpson (Daniel) and Becky O’Bar and her son, Joe O’Bar. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Duquette (Ray); daughter in law, Kim O’Bar; two sons, Ben O’Bar (Jaime) and Jacob O’Bar (Chasity); two brothers, Peter Stiegler and Paul Stiegler (Carlene); two sisters, Joan Spearman (Rick) and Kathy Beshears (Eddie); many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.
Dede married John and together they created JoDot Farm, where she spent many years helping on the farm when she wasn’t at work. They ran a dairy operation for years before turning it into a family cattle farm. Now the farm has a running chicken house operation, which she ran with her son, Joe and his four children. Dede was a nurse for over 40 years, many of which were spent running the Waldron Mercy Hospital before she retired. She was an active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, the South Logan County Fair, the Booneville Extension Homemaker’s Club and she loved sewing quilts and being around her family.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 12 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Booneville with burial at Liberty Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Honors will be provided at the church by the Nurses Honor Guard of the River Valley. Rosary with visitation to follow will be 5 – 7 p.m. on Monday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Ethan O’Bar, Matt O’Bar, Homer Simpson, Bryson Simpson, Billy Fonseca and Steve Hawkins.
