Former Super Eagles forward, John Chukwudi Utaka, has been appointed as the new head coach of Montpellier HSC Women.
This marks a big step in Utaka’s coaching career and brings him back to the club where he won the French Ligue 1 title in the 2011/12 season. He famously scored both goals in Montpellier’s 2-1 win over Auxerre that secured the title.
Since retiring from football in 2018, Utaka has focused on coaching. He recently worked as assistant coach for Montpellier’s U19 team and earned his UEFA A Licence in 2022.
He also had a brief spell in charge of the women’s team in 2021, leading them to a sixth-place finish.
The 43-year-old Nigerian is now expected to lead the team into a new era, combining discipline with attacking football. Fans are excited to see the return of a club legend, hoping his style as a player will now shape the team’s approach on the pitch.
