Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or Yachine Trophy, an award given to the best goalkeeper in the world.
Nnadozie had a brilliant season both for club and country. She played for Paris FC in the French top division, where she made a 78% save rate in the league. She also helped the team win the French Cup by beating PSG in a penalty shoot-out.
Her performances earned her a place in the league’s Team of the Season and led to a transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion in the English Women’s Super League.
Internationally, the 24-year-old remains the Super Falcons’ first-choice goalkeeper. She was key to Nigeria’s recent triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they won their 10th title.
Now, her efforts have been recognised with a place on the shortlist for the Yachine Trophy.
Who Are Nnadozie’s Rivals?
Nnadozie will compete for the award with several top goalkeepers:
- Hannah Hampton (Chelsea): Helped England win the UEFA Women’s Euro.
- Daphne van Domselaar (Arsenal): Won the Women’s Champions League with Arsenal.
- Cata Coll (Barcelona and Spain): Won La Liga Femeni and reached the Euro final.
- Ann-Katrin Berger (Gotham FC): Won the CONCACAF Women’s Champions Cup and reached the Euro semi-final with Germany.
The winner will be announced in September 2025. If Nnadozie wins, she will become the first Nigerian goalkeeper to claim the prestigious award.
