Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has issued firm instructions to restart the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge construction by November 2025, setting a completion deadline of 2026. The bridge, touted as South Asia’s longest river crossing, aims to transform regional connectivity across Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan.
The Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge is a key public-private partnership project envisioned to boost trade and travel efficiency along the Indus River. Initially launched several years ago, progress had stalled due to administrative and logistical delays.
During a high-level meeting at the CM House, Shah emphasized that all concerned departments must coordinate effectively to meet the new timeline. The project will cover a total length of 12.15 kilometers, comprising:
- 10.40 km of approach roads on the Ghotki side,
- 8.10 km on the Kandhkot side, and
- a 4.55 km Thull Link Road for improved local access.
The bridge will not only enhance trade routes but also reduce travel time and boost economic integration across three provinces.
Chief Minister Shah stated,
“This project is a symbol of Sindh’s commitment to regional progress and national connectivity. We must complete it on time to deliver its full benefit to the people.”
Earlier, Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, Special Assistant to the CM on Investment and PPP, described the bridge as
“the longest river bridge in South Asia and a landmark for Sindh’s infrastructure development.”
Once operational, the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge is expected to handle thousands of vehicles daily, serving as a critical corridor for trade, transport, and tourism between upper Sindh and southern Punjab. The project is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities during and after construction.
