
Traffic authorities in the Sindh capital have issued a strong warning to residents, announcing that riding a motorcycle without a valid driving license will now result in a hefty motorbike license fine in Karachi set at Rs20,000.
DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah urged all citizens to ensure their driving licenses are valid and updated. He emphasized that the department will show zero tolerance for violations, adding that no leniency will be offered under the new enforcement plan. Anyone caught operating a motorbike without a legal license will immediately face a Rs20,000 penalty.
He also clarified the speed limit across the city, stating that all vehicles, regardless of size, must adhere to the 60 kmph limit. Drivers found exceeding this limit will be issued speeding tickets under the upgraded monitoring system.
Faceless E Challan System Begins in Karachi
The newly introduced faceless e challan system has officially begun operating in Karachi. On the first day alone, traffic authorities issued more than 2,662 electronic challans[1] within six hours, generating over Rs12.5 million in fines.
According to DIG Shah, significant technical improvements have been made to the digital system, yet the first day saw a high number of violations. Data from the report showed the most common offenses included not wearing seat belts with 1,535 challans, 507 cases of riding without a helmet, 419 instances of speeding, 166 violations for running red lights and three lane discipline violations.
He added that strict enforcement will continue as the department works to reduce traffic violations across Karachi.
