EA and Battlefield Studios have officially launched Battlefield REDSEC, a free-to-play standalone experience tied to Battlefield 6. The new update marks the start of Season 1, introducing three major modes: Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

As previously reported by TechJuice[1], EA confirmed REDSEC’s launch after months of leaks and speculation. The mode, short for “Redacted Sector”, expands Battlefield 6 into a unified ecosystem that shares progress and rewards between both versions.

A Battlefield Battle Royale Experience

REDSEC’s Battle Royale mode is the main highlight. It hosts 100-player matches combining the intensity of Battlefield’s destruction with the survival-driven elements of modern battle royales.

Players drop into Fort Lyndon, EA’s biggest Battlefield map ever, set in Southern California. The trailer showcases infantry parachuting into firefights while 2Pac and Dr. Dre’s “California Love” blasts in the background.

Players can loot gear, upgrade classes, complete missions, and unlock vehicles from tanks and attack boats to golf carts. Heavy vehicles like the “M1 Abrams tank” require completing missions and using special keycards to access garages.

Gauntlet: Short and Intense Matches

For players seeking faster action, Gauntlet offers a tournament-style mode with 32 players divided into eight squads. Each round lasts five minutes, featuring rotating missions and locations. Teamwork determines who advances and who gets eliminated.

Portal Returns: More Creative Freedom

The popular Portal mode from “Battlefield 2042” returns with expanded tools. Players can now create custom modes and maps within Fort Lyndon’s massive area. Two official Portal maps are available at launch, with more on the way.

REDSEC Portal feels closer to GTA Online in spirit, letting players experiment with everything from midair obstacle courses to wild vehicle challenges.

Integrated Progression With Battlefield 6

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC coexist under one main menu. Both share the Season 1 battle pass, ensuring XP and rewards transfer seamlessly. Players who own Battlefield 6 can access the full range of Portal creation tools and exclusive maps, while free REDSEC players can still enjoy all gameplay content without purchasing the base game.

EA confirmed that there are no REDSEC-exclusive unlocks planned. Some vehicle skins and items may vary between both titles.

With its launch, REDSEC expands the franchise beyond traditional combat. EA aims to evolve the game through seasonal updates and community feedback.
