Good news, bad news for Florida’s top Cop.
Florida’s appointed Attorney General is well on his way to being elected in his own right, according to fresh polling, primarily due to the GOP’s strength in the state.
A University of North Florida survey shows James Uthmeier with a 9-point lead over potential Democratic nominee Jose Javier Rodriguez.
Uthmeier, who Gov. Ron DeSantis tapped to fill the unexpired term of Ashley Moody after she was picked to fill Marco Rubio’s Senate seat, has 45% support.
Rodriguez, a former state Senator from South Florida, draws 36%.
Meanwhile, 14% of likely Midterm voters are up for grabs, while the rest wouldn’t answer or didn’t like the options on offer.
The polling suggests that Uthmeier is very lucky that the GOP has roughly 1.4 million more registered voters than the Democrats, meanwhile.
Alone among statewide candidates polled, Uthmeier actually trails his Democratic opponent among voters with no party affiliation, 36% to 32%.
Pollster Michael Binder notes it’s still very early in the cycle and that Uthmeier and other DeSantis appointees are not well known, but that NPA number is nonetheless worth watching for the Governor’s former Chief of Staff, who was endorsed by President Donald Trump this month.
Beyond NPA voters, who make up roughly a fifth of the sample, both candidates perform well within their own parties.
Rodriguez has 77% of Democrats, while Uthmeier draws 80% of GOP voters.
The poll of likely Midterm voters was in the field between October 15 and 25, 2025. The Margin of Error is +/- 4.25%.
