Google is reportedly preparing a major multitasking upgrade for Android tablets, aiming to make them more productive and closer to PC-level functionality.

According to reports from the latest Android 25.10 Canary build, Google is testing a feature that allows users to open any app in a floating bubble. The upcoming Android tablets feature was found hidden within the Pixel Launcher app.

The “bubble anything” tool first surfaced last year but never launched publicly. Now, the reappearance of related code suggests Google is ready to roll it out. With this feature, users could drag an app icon to the bottom corners of the screen to open it in a floating window, enabling a more flexible multitasking experience.

If released, this addition could redefine how Android tablets handle multitasking. Currently, Android supports split-screen mode and a taskbar for managing apps, but users are limited to running only two at once. The floating bubble interface, however, would let users open and move multiple apps freely across their screens, similar to desktop computers.

For students, professionals, and remote workers using Android tablets, the feature promises improved productivity and smoother app management.

Google’s larger goal appears to be enhancing Android tablets and future Android-based PCs to rival Windows tablets and ChromeOS devices. While the company has yet to announce a release timeline, the multitasking update is expected to arrive with Android 25 or Android 26.
