Microsoft Teams is set to roll out a new update that will automatically update a user’s work location when they connect to an office Wi-Fi network. The change, expected to arrive in December 2025, could impact how employees manage their availability in shared workspaces.
According to a post on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, the feature will detect when a user connects to their organization’s Wi-Fi and will automatically show the building location within Teams. Microsoft has not yet provided specific details on how the tool will function or what additional features may accompany the update.
The update could reduce confusion about employees’ physical locations, especially in hybrid or flexible work environments. However, it may also raise concerns for users who prefer discretion or occasional quiet days at the office without alerting their status.
The feature is currently in development and will be available on Teams for both Windows and Mac systems globally once released.
Recent additions to Microsoft Teams include a new ability to save messages in chats and conversations, enabling users to locate important information without scrolling through long threads. Microsoft has also announced that configurable keyboard shortcuts will soon be introduced, giving users quicker access to frequently used symbols and icons.
