The much-anticipated launch of Xiaomi electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan has hit a major roadblock as Air Link Communication confirmed a delay, citing Xiaomi’s struggle to meet massive domestic demand in China.

During a corporate briefing following its Q1 FY26 financial results, Air Link’s management revealed that while the local debut of Xiaomi EVs was planned for this year, the company has decided to prioritize production of left-hand drive models for the Chinese market before expanding overseas.

“The domestic response in China has far exceeded expectations, and exports will take longer than initially planned,” a company representative stated.

As a result, Air Link does not expect Xiaomi’s EVs to arrive in Pakistan anytime soon. Despite the setback, the company remains optimistic about future growth, highlighting ongoing efforts to secure export approvals for its locally manufactured products potentially boosting revenues by over 200% once granted.

Xiaomi’s entry into the Pakistani EV market had stirred excitement last year after two SU7 Max models were spotted at Karachi Port, confirming early import testing. Air Link CEO Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha said that plans for local assembly would depend on regulatory approvals and market readiness.

Meanwhile, Air Link is advancing its relocation to the Sundar Green Special Economic Zone, expected to complete by December 2025, benefiting from tax exemptions and operational efficiencies. The company also plans to open Pakistan’s first Apple retail store and a Xiaomi outlet at Lahore’s Dolmen Mall, signaling its broader push into the consumer electronics and mobility markets.
