A man has been found guilty of murdering a hotel worker in an attack on a railway station platform in Walsall in October last year.
Deng Chol Majek, a Sudanese asylum seeker who claims to be 19-years-old, was staying at the Park Inn hotel in Walsall when he was accused of killing Ms Whyte. The 27-year-old was stabbed in the head 23 times on the evening of October 20, 2024, and died in hospital three days later. Ms Whyte has been waiting for a train home after work when she was set upon at around 11:15pm. During a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court, jurors were shown CCTV footage of Majek staring at Ms Whyte before brushing into her deliberately at the hotel entrance shortly before her shift ended, prosecuters said.

He was then captured following Ms Whyte into Bescot Stadium station, and then again leaving the platform. Majek was later seen smoking and drinking with friends in a car park near the Park Inn hotel.
According to a hotel housing officer, Majek appeared to be “back to himself” while in the car park and “seemed happier than before”. In mobile phone footage shown to jurors, Majek was seen dancing with his friends as he made his way back to his hotel room.
Throughout the trial, Majek had denied murder, possessing a screwdriver and being at the train station where Ms Whyte was stabbed. He said he was “staying in the hotel, outside” when the attack happened.
