Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the board and management of Lobi Stars Football Club following the team’s semi-final loss to Sporting Lagos in the ongoing Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, on Friday, Governor Alia approved the immediate dissolution of the club’s management, citing the need for “greater efficiency, accountability, and improved performance” in all competitions.
The Governor directed all members of the disbanded board to hand over official documents, assets, and responsibilities to the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, and Creativity without delay.
While appreciating the outgoing management for their service to the state, Governor Alia assured that a new leadership structure would soon be announced to reposition the club for better results.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to using sports as a vital tool for youth development, talent discovery, and unity across Benue State, promising renewed investment in Lobi Stars and grassroots sports development.
Meanwhile, Lobi Stars’ elimination from the 13th edition of the Gold Cup Pre-Season Tournament capped a difficult week for the Makurdi-based side.
Sporting Lagos defeated them 1–0 in a tense semi-final encounter, with Shola Oladunjoiye combining with Ibrahim Abdulganniyu to score the only goal in the 70th minute. Coach Jeffrey Buter’s tactical changes in the second half proved decisive as Sporting Lagos advanced to their first-ever Gold Cup final.
As Sporting Lagos celebrate a new milestone, Lobi Stars now face a period of reflection and rebuilding under a fresh direction promised by Governor Alia.
