Over a month since hitting store shelves, Apple’s iPhone 17 series is showing significantly stronger sales performance than last year’s iPhone 16 lineup, according to new research by Counterpoint. The data, covering the first 10 days of availability in China and the United States, reveals a 14% increase in overall sales compared to the iPhone 16 series during the same launch window.
Pro Models Doing Well
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are reportedly leading the charge, outselling the iPhone 16 Pro models by about 12%. Strong demand for the Pro variants is largely attributed to hardware upgrades, including a faster A19 chip, improved battery life, and enhanced camera systems with advanced AI-powered image processing.
Base iPhone 17 Steals the Show
The base iPhone 17 has seen the most significant improvement, with sales jumping 31% over the iPhone 16. Analysts suggest this surge may be due to a more competitive price point, as well as notable display and performance enhancements that bring the base model closer to the Pro lineup in user experience, for the first time ever.
iPhone Air Beats 16 Plus
Also new to the lineup is the iPhone Air, which is replacing the iPhone 16 Plus. Early figures indicate it is performing better than its predecessor, appealing to users looking for a larger screen without the higher cost of a Pro Max model. Improved design, weight reduction are likely contributing factors to its growing popularity.
US and China Carrying Sales
Both China and the US, Apple’s largest markets, are playing a major role in the strong launch figures. Despite economic concerns in China and ongoing competition from local brands like Huawei[1] and Xiaomi, demand for the iPhone 17 remains resilient. In the US, aggressive carrier trade-in deals and installment plans have helped drive early adoption.
