U.S. Ambassador to Panama Kevin Marino Cabrera traveled to Chiriquí province to cap off a U.S.-Panama joint medical mission and launch a series of visits highlighting American investment and cooperation in the region.

Cabrera attended the closing ceremony of Amistad 2025[1] at José Domingo de Obaldía Hospital in David. The two-week humanitarian effort brought together U.S. military specialists and Panamanian medical teams from the Ministry of Health and Social Security Fund to deliver care to more than 1,000 patients in Veraguas, Herrera and Chiriquí.

“The joint humanitarian mission Amistad was possible thanks to the expanded security cooperation framework between the United States and Panama,” Cabrera said. “We arrive to Chiriquí with great satisfaction and, above all, with the conviction that the friendship between the United States and Panama is stronger today.”

The Amistad 2025 efforts in Panama marked the final leg of a 10-week regional campaign that also included medical missions in Peru, Suriname, El Salvador and Paraguay. In Panama, U.S. and Panamanian teams provided care in specialties including cardiology, gastroenterology, dentistry, family medicine and neonatal intensive care. U.S. engineers also upgraded hospital infrastructure with new air-conditioning systems, electrical work and structural repairs.

This is the second high-profile medical initiative Cabrera has supported in recent months. In August, he joined Panama’s First Lady in Veraguas for a cataract surgery mission that restored eyesight to hundreds of patients.[2]

Beyond health care, Cabrera’s itinerary in Chiriquí includes stops at San Juan de David School to see a U.S.-funded potable water project. He also plans to donate backpacks and sports equipment to students.

The Ambassador plans to meet with local leaders at the David Mayor’s Office, the Chiriquí Governor’s Office and the National Assembly. He will also tour facilities operated by AES and Enfragen, two U.S. energy companies with major investments in the province.

In Boquete, Cabrera is set to meet with American citizens serving as Embassy liaisons, engage with alumni of U.S. exchange programs, and visit local attractions including the Flower Fair and coffee farms.

Cabrera, a former Miami-Dade County Commissioner and Republican strategist, was sworn in earlier this year as Ambassador after being nominated by former President Donald Trump.[3]
