Leftwing extremism continues to spiral in Germany as leftist fanatics sabotage a power transmission line and cause a crippling power outage in Berlin.
42,000 households, 3000 businesses lose power
BERLIN—The bustling heart of Berlin was plunged into an unsettling darkness yesterday, September 9. Tens of thousands of residents lost power. The cause turns out to have been far more sinister than a simple technical malfunction: a calculated act of sabotage.
The incident unfolded in the southeastern Berlin neighborhood of Johannisthal, along Königsheideweg street where two crucial high-voltage pylons became the targets of a deliberate attack.
German police believe the perpetrators used an accelerant, likely gasoline, to ignite the massive cables on these structures that resulted in a fire blazing for about an hour. Significant damage was caused and parts of vital infrastructure were destroyed.
Initial investigations by German authorities quickly pointed towards a politically motivated extremist act. A letter surfaced on a left-wing platform, swiftly claiming responsibility. The authors identified themselves as “some anarchists” and declared their target to be the science park in the Adlershof neighborhood – a hub for numerous technology, robotics, and defense-related companies, which the group collectively labeled as the “military-industrial complex.”
Unfortunately, the latest act of sabotage is not an anomaly for Berlin. Last year, the notorious left-wing extremist group “Vulkangruppe” attacked a Tesla factory in Brandenburg in 2024[1].
The blackout rippled through the lives of approximately 50,000 customers, encompassing around 42,000 households and 3,000 businesses across the districts of Altglienicke, Grünau, Adlershof, Spindlersfeld, Alt-Johannisthal, and Oberschöneweide.
The consequences were immediate and severe: the crucial emergency numbers, 110 and 112, were temporarily out of service in some affected areas, forcing authorities to establish mobile contact points for urgent assistance.
Public transport ground to a halt as traffic lights failed and tram services were interrupted, leading to widespread delays and confusion. Moreover, schools, nursing homes, and even fire stations found themselves without power, creating challenging situations for vulnerable populations and critical response teams.
The attack incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of Germany’s energy infrastructure to deliberate acts of sabotage.
The left-wing extremist group “Vulkangruppe” (Volcano Group) has been carrying out acts of sabotage on infrastructure in Berlin and Brandenburg since 2011. Their attacks have previously targeted railway lines, data cables, and company vehicles. The group’s actions are a manifestation of the more radical, violent side of the anti-capitalist and environmentalist struggle that exists within the broader Antifa movement.
